Adani Wilmar, a major edible oil manufacturer, had filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the B2B platform ‘Jumbotail.’ The complaint was made in the Badalpur police station in Gautam Budhnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Adani Wilmar accused Jumbotail of allegedly distributing counterfeit products on its platform, which the company discovered during a routine market survey.

After the complaint was filed, law enforcement authorities conducted a raid at Jumbotail’s warehouse, where they seized significant quantities of counterfeit products bearing Adani Wilmar’s flagship brand name, ‘Fortune.’ The seized products included counterfeit bottles of Fortune Kacchi Ghani Mustard Oil, Fortune Refined Soybean Oil, and Fortune Sarso Oil.

Adani Wilmar conducted an in-depth examination of the seized products and found various discrepancies, such as mismatched Batch Code details, fake QR codes, and inauthentic packaging materials, confirming the presence of counterfeit products in the market. The company expressed its concern over such counterfeit products, which pose risks to consumers’ health. Adani Wilmar is cooperating with the authorities to identify the sources of the counterfeits and take appropriate actions.

It’s worth noting that edible oil prices in India have been declining due to better oilseed production and reduced demand in developed economies, along with eased supply in the Black Sea region. Adani Wilmar reported a decline in sales in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2023-2024, citing the sharp fall in edible oil prices and weaker demand. In the previous quarter, they also reported a decline in rural edible oil sales due to lower demand caused by price inflation.

Following Adani Wilmar’s complaint, Jumbotail’s spokesperson issued a statement the day after, stating that the B2B platform has a zero-tolerance policy towards counterfeit products. They offered full assistance to Adani Wilmar in identifying the original source of the vendors from whom the alleged counterfeit products were procured. Jumbotail assured that they take strict measures to ensure only genuine products are sold on their platform. They also claimed to have provided all necessary assistance to Adani Wilmar and law enforcement authorities in tracing the source of the alleged counterfeit products.
